Beautiful Family Session in Kamloops, BC with Emily-May Photography

Hey friends, it’s been a little while. This year was a lot & I missed out on blogging all my sessions. So now during slow season I get to reminisce. For this session we did kind of a end of summer into fall vibe. I think we really captured the coziness of the warm evening. & we even ended the night in the water, which is always a favourite for me!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, my goal is for one photo where you are all looking. If we get more than that, awesome. But I would much rather capture how you interact with each other. All the smiles, hugs and laughs. Your kids can run around, I’ll catch them. Photos are supposed to be fun! And the more fun they have, the more you can relax and enjoy this time with your family.

I was so happy we made time for a couple session & a few shots of just Emily at the end. She dressed up in some of the #emclientcloset pieces in the second half, a skirt by Myrtle & Moss Photography and a top from North of Esme that pairs beautifully. Her daughter was in a dress that I made!

This session is what family session dreams are made of!

Baptism Ceremony at Ukrainian Orthodox Church Of All Saints in Kamloops, BC with Emily-May Photography

This was my very first baptism captured and I think I knocked it out of the park! I grew up going to church but had never seen one as beautiful as this.

Photographing this event really made me realize just how important this job can be. These once in a lifetime events that you can’t get back, documented forever. It’s so special.

This sweet little one is so loved. And surrounded by such a generous and kind family. I felt so honoured to have been asked to take these pictures.

I did a lot of research leading up to this! Turns out I did not need to, everyone at the church was so helpful and welcoming while I setup a tripod to record the baptism as well. But it did feel good to be prepared!

Candid Family Session with Emily-May Photography in Kamloops, BC

When K tells me he only wants one photo… and ends up with a photoshoot just for himself.

The biggest secret for sessions, let your kids be kids. I think photo sessions can be scary as a little one. It’s a lot of attention to direct to one person. So let them explore! Let me be on their side. Once they consider me a friend, that’s when the real magic happens.

I like to think of a camera as another set of eyes - eye contact isn’t always easy for everybody. Sometimes it takes time! And sometimes it happens accidentally and that’s okay too.

You can trust that as a photographer I want to document you and your family together. I want those memories for you. But I want it to be a good memory. I want your kids to have fun and be silly. Be themselves. Because at the end of the day, you want to capture them as they are.

Backyard Wedding in Kamloops, BC with Emily-May Photography

A beautiful back yard wedding in Kamloops, BC with close family and friends. I loved this wedding! And it’s not just because I was their annoyingly early and handed an iced tea and a chair immediately when I got there. This really felt like a celebration of true love.

Plus, you know I love a good shade moment. When the bride messaged me, she said that the most important photos for them were the ones of their family after. It’s not every day that everyone is dressed at all in the same place. And I SO agree! You have to get those memories captured when you can.

I’ve been a really big fan of these micro-weddings, not in guest count but in session time. You can get what you want captured and get on with your celebrations!
